Professor Hope M. Harrison is being awarded the German federal order of merit for her “work to foster a deeper understanding of German history and an unvarnished confrontation with the division of Germany during the Cold War era. In her extensive scholarly works and media appearances, she has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to conveying a modern image of Germany to a broader audience in the United States. In doing so, she has brought Germans and Americans closer together and, for that, we are truly grateful.” A ceremony will be held this spring at the residence of the German ambassador.
